The
Keys are a diver’s and snorkeler’s paradise, and how about going SNUBA diving?
Our reefs are
located in 25 to 30 feet of normally calm, clear, and warm water. Summertime
water temperatures approach 90 degrees, and in winter the water rarely gets
below 70.
Often the
visibility in the water approaches 100 feet, especially in the summer as the
Gulf Stream pushes closer to the reef.
Keep in mind this is the only reef located in North America and the world's
third largest. Colorful fish and fascinating creatures swim by in this surreal
world of color and beauty. Bring your underwater camera to record your reef
experience.
Snorkeling:
Anyone can do
it. Snorkeling requires only a mask, snorkel, fins and a safety vest, all
provided by the boat.
We have a choice of boats: a large comfortable catamaran, a traditional
mono-hulled sailboat, or charter a private boat with an experienced captain/dive
master to take you to the reef.
If you’re new
to the sport, the crew is eager to instruct you on how to enjoy snorkeling in
Key West at one of many wonderful locations.
All equipment is provided and when you’ve completed your snorkeling they will
offer complimentary beer and wine.
Bring sun protection, good sun glasses and a snack or picnic basket. Most boats
offer early morning, early afternoon, or a combo snorkel/sunset trip that leaves
in the late afternoon, and after snorkeling, returns to the Key West harbor for
a sunset cruise.
Private snorkeling charters are available and will take your group of up to 6
people for half-day
SNUBA diving:
An increasingly
popular water activity is SNUBA diving (Surface Nexus Underwater Breathing
Apparatus), which, unlike scuba diving, does not require any type of
certification.
At depths of up to twenty feet you can breathe air from tanks floating on the
surface through long hoses and mouthpieces (regulators). You’ll be free from
cumbersome tanks and breathing normally while underwater...just like a fish!
The entire time, the dive master accompanies you underwater. With a
twenty-minute lesson from your dive master, you will be diving the reef that
same day.
Bring a disposable, waterproof camera to the reef. They take great pictures.
